Carl and Florence Lundell

Does anyone have the story on where Carl came from or what happened to his family?

Also, please note the new link to the right. Deanna has a new blog, where she tells us about their trip to Hong Kong, which is not far from where Wyatt is living!

For those of you who want the story on Carl, this is what Harry wrote:

His official name was Carl Ludwig Magnus Lundell. His middle names are from his grandfathers. Born on April 3, 1888, Carl was the 5th child and only son of August Lundell (Andrew's brother) and August's wife, Ida (Miller). Six days before Carl turned 2 years of age, Carl's mother gave birth to her 6 child, Susie, who died that same day. Three days after Carl's birthday, his mother died also.

Unable to care for the family alone and failing health as well, Carl's father, August, moved back to the Lundell home farm. While Carl remained under his fathers care, the girls went to the Miller family. In 1894 Carl's father also died. Shortly after this time, the Miller family picked up Carl from school and tried to get custody of him. But Andrew and went to court in Red WIng over the matter and won his case. The Miller family had to return Carl and he remained on the home farm with his grandmother, Sarah, and his uncle, Andrew, until he was on his own. For all practical purposes, Andrew raised Carl like his own son.

By the way, it was Carl's mother, Ida, who is the connection to the Pearson family. Ida's sister, Alice, was Rudolf Pearson's mother.

A couple more notes. Carl was a WW1 vet. He personally was always quiet and reserved. HIs first labor off the farm was to help barn raising in the neighborhood. Carl did farm west of Cannon Falls along what is now highway 19 early on. Later he opened a garage in Cannon Falls.
Thanks, Harry for all you information. It is all so interesting, and I'm glad someone in the family has kept up with it!
