1853 Ship Manifest

This is the earliest record that shows our family coming to America. There are three items that are interesting.

1- Earlier it was believed they arrived at New York harbor. Not so. Magnus and Sarah arrived in Boston.

2- Notice that the name Lundell was not yet used. Notice also there is another Nils Hakanson only 5 lines above our ancestor.

3- Although their daughter, Johanna, was born 10 days earlier on the Atlantic Ocean, she does not appear on the ships manifest. In fact, the first two census records that she appears on it is claimed she is born on the Atlantic. But not being born in the United States she was considered alien and by the 1900 census she is listed as being born in Sweden.
